FOOD GIRL
Hi there, welcome to my website. I am a proud Dharawal woman, mother to two young boys (one of which is Autistic), an accredited clinical nutritionist and a lover of food as medicine. I am passionate about using food as medicine to heal the body, and using a holistic approach. I practice evidence based medicine, prescribe necessary supplements, order blood tests and guide you through your journey to better health. I have a special interest in paediatric feeding problems, and aboriginal community health. I am proud to help our mob with their health and wellness with my ‘Eat from the land' approach, focusing on our genealogy, cell memory and supporting the liver as the basis for treatment.
As a litte insight into myself and why I am dedicated to nutrition… I suffered from cystic acne, high cholesterol, reflux, poor digestion, arthritic pains, tiredness, poor liver function, hypo thyroid and insulin resistance. At the age of 20, I discovered a whole new world of nutrition, and how… what we are eating dramatically affects our health! I was pregnant with my first child and it clicked… what I was eating was also affecting my growing child. It was around the same time I changed my career direction and went down the path of studying nutrition at university. Over the years studying I learnt how to eat well for myself and my children’s health. Now 10 years later, the only condition I still suffer from is arthritis, although this is extremely well managed and my pain scale is minimal to what is was 10 years ago. Taking a holistic approach, eating right for my body and being guided by evidence based nutrition has helped me to be a healthier and happier version of me.
I believe in eating for your body, everyone is unique in what we thrive on. What might not agree with me, may with you. I also believe, that everyone needs nutrient dense, wholesome, yummy foods to thrive inside and out, mentally, physically and spiritually.
SOS FEEDING THERAPY
My eldest son is Autistic, so I understand the sensory issues surrounding food with kids on the spectrum. I wanted to specialise in this area of nutrition and help parents tackle feeding problems. In Toowoomba where we live, there isn’t anyone specialising in this field. I am trained in the SOS approach to feeding therapy, an international transdisciplinary program for assessing and treating children with feeding difficulties. Sometimes, discerning the difference between a “picky or fussy eater” and a “problem feeder” can be difficult. It could just be a hiccup in their developing tastes, sensory related or a little phase they’re going through. But, if your child is a picky eater or a problem feeder, they will require support to learn how to eat a more varied diet. If you’re concerned about a potential “picky eater” in your life Contact me
